Fiji International Telecommunications Pte Limited (FINTEL) is a limited liability company incorporated and domiciled in Fiji.
The principal activities of FINTEL are the provision and operation of international telecommunications facilities into and out of Fiji, and the provision of internet connection and internet related services in the domestic market
FINTEL was formed in December 1976 and was jointly owned by the Government of Fiji (51%) and Cable and Wireless Plc. of UK (49%).
In 2012, Amalgamated Telecoms Holding (ATH) bought of C&W shares, followed by Government of Fiji shares in 2013.
ATH is a public company, incorporated to consolidate the Fiji Government’s investments in the telecommunications sector as part of the public sector reform program.
FINTEL (www.fintel.com.fj) operates an international wholesale business and the retail access into the local market, is through its Internet Service Provider (ISP), Kidanet (www.kidanet.com.fj).
In facilitating its retail arm, FINTEL rolled out a Broadband Wireless WiMAX infrastructure, with an insular radio network covering Suva, Nadi, Lautoka and Ba.
FINTEL maintains a cable landing station and a satellite earth station that supports a robust and diverse international gateway that includes the Southern Cross submarine optical fibre cable network (www.southerncrosscables.com) and a satellite facility positioned at the Vatuwaqa Communications Centre.
Services include bilateral wholesale voice services, IP Transit, cable broadband bandwidth leases, southern cross cable capacity access, international private leased circuits, frame relay, retail broadband, video conferencing, television transmissions, tele-housing and co-location.
Regionally, FINTEL is directly interconnected with the Tonga (TCL) , Vanuatu (ICN) cable systems and Samoa (SCCN) Cable .
