FINTEL donates prize to support Pacific Mini Games athletes
FASANOC - Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee: Media Release
FINTEL which signed up to FASANOC's Partners For Gold fundraising programme, then won the major prize, has chosen to donate the cash value of their prize, plus more, to young Pacific Mini Games athletes.
FINTEL was drawn as the lucky winner of the Partners For Gold Cook Islands Package, which had a total prize value of $3200, to be part of the Pacific Mini Games experience in the Cook Islands alongside Team Fiji from 21 September to 2 October 2009. In July FINTEL had donated F$5000 towards FASANOC's Partner for Gold call to support Fiji's national representative athletes to participate in the Pacific Mini Games. As a Partner for Gold, FINTEL received an exciting number of members benefits including the possibility of winning the Cook Islands package.
FINTEL executives made the decision to not to take advantage of the prize and instead put the cash value towards supporting Fiji's top young athletes. FINTEL's selection criteria was that the athlete must be aged 20 years or younger at time of competing in the Pacific Mini Games and considered to have the potential for best performance at the Pacific Mini Games. The athletes chosen by FINTEL to receive this financial assistance are:
These four athletes are each receiving a grant of $800 which they can use towards costs associated with their preparation for and participation in the Mini Games (such as levies, training costs, clothing and/or equipment)
On top of this donation, FINTEL has also donated an extra $2000 to support those Fiji athletes who succeed at the games. Four grants of $500 each will be given to the top four performing young athletes (aged 20 years or younger) at the Pacific Mini Games. This grant will support those athletes in their post Mini Games training and competition costs.
FASANOC will be responsible for coordinating the provision of these funds to the respective athletes.
