FINTEL, Fiji and the Pacific Islands, today celebrated a key international telecommunications milestone, landing the Southern Cross NEXT cable (SX NEXT) at Savusavu, Vanua Levu.
More importantly and critical in terms of international telecommunications system resilience, for the first time in over a century, this cable landing will provide some subsea cable redundancy to Fiji and the Pacific regions international connectivity.
This second international telecommunications subsea cable access, part of the USD$20M investment by FINTEL, will expand Fiji’s global connectivity and provide some comfort in risk management.
Vanua Levu, for the first time will have high capacity, low latency, dependable and a secure international telecommunications network to meet their online data needs, at their doorstep.
There will be 72 terabits per second of capacity available from this Savusavu cable landing station, connecting Fijian consumers, business and industry to the world via Australia, New Zealand and the USA.
The telecommunications infrastructure development falls in line with the national plan to develop the Northern Division
